THe difference between the infra-slim tension of oil paint on a canvas surface and simulated paint on a virtual surface: Physical application of and contact of admixtures of pigments and oils on a gessoed fibrous surface. If the former can be described or understood as the centuries-old love-affair of the erotic relationship between image and ground, how can the present hyper-reality of painting images with digital tools and simulated media be described in terms of a new infra-slim eros of simulacra?
In both his painting and digital practices, Fudge often fabricates the transparent layer of Adobe Photoshop as an infra-ground for his paintings and painted simulations. Fudge's fabricated transparent layer is intended to be read by the viewer as an authentic Photoshop transparent layer i.e., the conceptual transparency of the software program is détourned by the artist to allegorize the transparency of his paintings and his digital works; with these allegories of the digital everything disappears before Nietzsche's 'erased horizon'.
